About the Mildura area
Mildura sits in the Mildura Rural City Council, in north-west Victoria’s Sunraysia region. The numbers tell the story: Mildura produces more than 80 percent of Victoria’s grapes, including the bulk of the state’s wine and table grapes, and over 70 percent of Australia’s dried vine fruits. Add the citrus, almond, and stone fruit operations across the Murray-Darling corridor and it’s one of the most concentrated horticultural economies in the country. What's the difference between a timber pallet and an export pallet?
An export pallet is a timber pallet that has been heat treated and certified to ISPM 15, which is what lets it leave the country. Any solid timber packaging heading overseas has to meet it. If your freight stays in Australia a standard wooden pallet does the job. If it is going on a ship or a plane it needs to be an export pallet.
Do you manufacture produce bins at Mildura?
Yes. Produce bins and bulk bins are a core part of the Mildura order book. Wooden bins protect perishable goods and keep produce fresher for longer, and they’re a sustainable alternative to plastic. Bins are built to suit growers’ handling requirements, including one tonne, half tonne and quarter tonne capacities, and can be designed to your own specification where a standard bin doesn’t fit the operation.
Can produce bins be used for export?
Yes, provided they’re ISPM 15 certified. Any solid timber packaging leaving Australia has to meet ISPM 15, and that applies to produce bins and bulk bins the same way it applies to pallets. CMTP manufactures ISPM 15 certified timber packaging, so bins destined for international freight are treated and marked to comply. Tell the Mildura team the destination market when you order, because some countries add their own requirements on top of ISPM 15.
Can CMTP design a pallet or crate for an unusual product?
Yes. CMTP runs a 3D CAD design capability based at the Colac head office, so Mildura customers can have a pallet, case or crate engineered around the product rather than forcing the product onto a standard footprint.
What do you need from me to quote a custom build?
Product dimensions and weight, how it’s handled (forklift, pallet jack, crane), how it’s transported and where it’s going, and any compliance requirements such as ISPM 15 or food grade. The more of that you have up front, the faster the Mildura team can come back with a spec and a price.
