We've been making pallets in Victoria since 1976, to the same spec that runs at every CMTP site. Building locally in the west is what lets the team hold a 3-4 day standard lead time rather than working to a freight schedule.

CMTP Derrimut builds timber pallets, crates, cases, produce bins and cardboard packaging for Melbourne's west. The west is freight and warehousing country, and the team supplies the logistics operators, manufacturers and exporters working through it, including corrosion protection packaging for machinery and equipment heading overseas. Timber and cardboard come from the same site, so one call covers both.

About the Derrimut area
Derrimut sits in the City of Brimbank, 17km west of Melbourne’s CBD. It’s home to the largest industrial precinct in Brimbank at 604 hectares, with direct access to the Western Ring Road, the Western Freeway and Ballarat Road. That freight infrastructure is a big part of why so much of Melbourne’s manufacturing and logistics base settled in the western corridor in the first place.

What pallet sizes can I order from CMTP Derrimut?
The Australian standard 1165 x 1165 pallet is the most common order, alongside Euro and US export footprints. Derrimut also builds to custom dimensions where a standard footprint doesn’t suit the product or the container. Tell the team the load, the handling equipment and the destination and they’ll spec it.
What's the difference between a timber pallet and an export pallet?
An export pallet is a timber pallet that has been heat treated and certified to ISPM 15, which is what lets it leave the country. Any solid timber packaging heading overseas has to meet it. If your freight stays in Australia a standard wooden pallet does the job. If it is going on a ship or a plane it needs to be an export pallet.
Can I order cardboard cartons and pallets together from CMTP Derrimut?
Yes. Cartons are part of the standard range at Derrimut, so an operation that would otherwise run a separate carton supplier can consolidate both onto one order and one delivery.
Do you supply custom sized cardboard cartons?
Cartons can be specified to suit the product and the pallet footprint, which matters if you’re trying to cube out a pallet properly rather than shipping air. Talk to the Derrimut team about dimensions and board grade.
What is corrosion protection packaging?
It’s packaging designed to stop metal components and machinery corroding while in storage or transit. It covers the barrier materials and treatments used alongside timber packaging, and it earns its place wherever goods sit for a while before use or travel through humidity and salt air.
When should I use corrosion protection packaging?
Any time you’re moving or storing bare metal, machined components, tooling or machinery, and particularly on long transit times or export freight. It’s a regular line for the west’s machinery and equipment exporters, where goods can sit in a container for weeks.
Can CMTP design a pallet or crate for an unusual product?
Yes. CMTP runs a 3D CAD design capability based at the Colac head office, so Derrimut customers can have a pallet, case or crate engineered around the product rather than forcing the product onto a standard footprint.
What do you need from me to quote a custom build?
Product dimensions and weight, how it’s handled (forklift, pallet jack, crane), how it’s transported and where it’s going, and any compliance requirements such as ISPM 15 or food grade. The more of that you have up front, the faster the Derrimut team can come back with a spec and a price.
