What we manufacture

What we manufacture at CMTP Branxholm

CMTP Branxholm is our Tasmanian sawmill and pallet manufacturing site, in the heart of the state’s timber country in the north-east. Logs from the region’s forests are milled here and built into timber pallets, crates, cases and produce bins on the same site, so the whole job happens in one place, from log to finished product. That matters more in Tasmania than anywhere else, because packaging from a mainland supplier has to cross Bass Strait, and growers and businesses pay for that freight leg in both cost and lead time. Standard orders from Branxholm are milled and built locally, with none of that added cost or wait.

Pallets

Branxholm builds timber pallets from timber milled on site, from standard runs through to custom sizes. Because the timber never leaves the site between the saw and the build, the team has control over quality at the point where most pallet problems start.

Sawn Tasmanian timber

The mill processes Tasmanian timber for our own manufacturing and for supply into CMTP's other operations. The north-east has grown quality timber for generations, and milling it here rather than shipping logs off the island keeps cost and lead time sensible.

Our Story in Branxholm

About the Branxholm area

Branxholm is a small town in the Dorset Council area, on the Ringarooma River in Tasmania’s north-east, around 90km from Launceston along the Tasman Highway. The town has been built around the local sawmill and timber industry for generations, with agriculture and food production filling out the rest of the economy. Timber remains one of the core sectors in north-east Tasmania, and the Blue Derby mountain bike trails in neighbouring Derby have made tourism a growing part of the local economy since they opened in 2015.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ's - CMTP Branxholm

Do you manufacture pallets in Branxholm?

Yes. CMTP Branxholm mills Tasmanian timber and builds pallets, crates, cases and produce bins on the same site, supplying customers across north-east Tasmania and the rest of the state.

What does the Branxholm site make?

Timber pallets, crates, cases and produce bins, all built from timber milled on site. Custom builds are designed with CMTP’s Colac design team.

Do you make produce bins in Tasmania?

Yes. Branxholm builds wooden produce bins for Tasmanian growers. Talk to the team about the size and volume you need ahead of harvest.

Why does it matter that CMTP owns the sawmill?

Owning the mill gives the team control over timber quality from the log through to the finished product. The timber in a Branxholm pallet or crate is milled on site rather than bought on the open market.

Do you deliver outside Branxholm?

Yes. Branxholm supplies north-east Tasmania, Launceston and the Tamar Valley, the east coast, the north-west coast and southern Tasmania, with freight to the mainland via Bass Strait.

How quickly can I order pallets from CMTP Branxholm?

3-4 days is a typical lead time for standard CMTP products. Custom builds take longer depending on the design. Contact the Branxholm team for current availability, and call for urgent orders.

What's the difference between a case and a crate?

A crate is an open slatted timber container, a case is fully enclosed. Crates are lighter and cheaper for robust goods. Cases give more protection for anything fragile, dust or moisture sensitive, or high value. The Branxholm team will tell you which one suits the job.

Can CMTP design a pallet or crate for an unusual product?

Yes. CMTP runs a 3D CAD design capability at the Colac head office, so Branxholm customers can have a pallet, case or crate engineered around the product rather than forcing the product onto a standard footprint.

What do you need from me to quote?

Product dimensions and weight, how it’s handled (forklift, pallet jack, crane), how it’s transported and where it’s going, and the volume you need. The more of that you have up front, the faster the Branxholm team can come back with a spec and a price.
